Harrismith has fallen and now both Helpmakaar and Ladysmith are in danger if the Boers can concentrate their strength against one or the other.</p><p>These are the three options I believe the British now have:</p><p><b>1.</b> Abandon Helpmakaar and concentrate all forces at Ladysmith in the hope that the Boers can be defeated in battle there.</p><p><b>2</b>. Split the British forces between Ladysmith and Helpmakaar and hope that both places can hold out.</p><p><b>3.</b> Hold both Ladysmith and Helpmakaar with token forces and push the main army north along the railway line with the aim of bringing about a decisive battle on favourable ground.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyGBO2uSYKN3z06pC363uzi7BiivwyI2L87r9l_Mv3H6zZE_-0OHhYQS0cS-66IPqxOdXEIfknszaqLZmjoW2adHTSfT8e6in3TwCbJp4N4lnkIdsa6PfDXjtnZEBY7Hz6Wo0Qi47_rTOtEctTbluGhDBTiJLTbCrq3SPcS1Obrkh4z0u4STw_6-oHKRM/s538/Generals.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="528" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyGBO2uSYKN3z06pC363uzi7BiivwyI2L87r9l_Mv3H6zZE_-0OHhYQS0cS-66IPqxOdXEIfknszaqLZmjoW2adHTSfT8e6in3TwCbJp4N4lnkIdsa6PfDXjtnZEBY7Hz6Wo0Qi47_rTOtEctTbluGhDBTiJLTbCrq3SPcS1Obrkh4z0u4STw_6-oHKRM/w393-h400/Generals.JPG" width="393" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Generals ride in for a council of war.</td></tr></tbody></table><p>Normally I would roll a dice to decide which strategy should be adopted but I thought it would be an interesting idea to throw this out to the blog readers. Let me know in the comments which of the three courses of action you think General White should take. If there is no consensus after a week then I will resort to a die roll.</p>Strykerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258922461691204362noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7105866628833354584.post-41354677801484210322023-11-10T11:11:00.000-08:002023-11-10T11:11:46.280-08:00Biggarsberg - The Aftermath<p>The casualty recovery dice rolls turned out to be not as bad as I feared for the British although Yule's Maxim Gun was lost (my original recovery rules allowed for full recovery of British artillery but I decided to change this to make it the same as the Boers). their objective is to expel the British from Natal. To achieve this, they need
to beat the soldiers of the Queen in battle or out manoeuvre them or both.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1M2FchAa3I45YvTsZDm1WkClRUZfhh87XNgRyiMSI1dzJTjbI-3f7IVm6kbEVSmwkOJKmvVIJ54WRFHvEsuciRHyj06CGO2yTrsxacQ6qM9Q0wmhx1b7Z2emcNabr68ztwYXXXncZXc61c_0u5GyWcSc8pDojDkSEv354LASnmno4SyOkpNL_zkq34XE/s1000/Boers%20on%20the%20march.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="1000" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1M2FchAa3I45YvTsZDm1WkClRUZfhh87XNgRyiMSI1dzJTjbI-3f7IVm6kbEVSmwkOJKmvVIJ54WRFHvEsuciRHyj06CGO2yTrsxacQ6qM9Q0wmhx1b7Z2emcNabr68ztwYXXXncZXc61c_0u5GyWcSc8pDojDkSEv354LASnmno4SyOkpNL_zkq34XE/w400-h308/Boers%20on%20the%20march.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Once again, I’m using a D6 to determine the deployment of

intention is for everything to be dice driven as I’m playing this solo. This
should limit my ability to bend things too much in favour of the British but we’ll
see!</p><p class="MsoNoSpacing">Before we get to troop deployment, I first need a
strategy with which I can then frame my orders to the various British commands.
So, I’ll start things off with a D6 die roll against the following <b>British
Strategy</b> chart:<o:p></o:p></p><div style="text-align: left;">1 = secure Ladysmith, Harrismith, Newcastle & Dundee<br />2 = secure Ladysmith, Harrismith & Newcastle<br />3 = secure Ladysmith, Harrismith & Helpmakaar<br />4 = secure Ladysmith, Harrismith & Glencoe<br />5 = secure Ladysmith, Newcastle & Dundee<br />6 = secure Ladysmith & Dundee</div><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing">

Helpmakaar</b>. An interesting one as it means I’m taking a southerly line of
defence but it’s also quite a wide area to defend.<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE5BZHVMlofU9mXFvkHaH5UD9JreaWtijvzYQFJ4qRfsrz9rBIk-9Kk3pQ3hRfxTFeDsIFdQl4zyBjQxKVHkw-umehIHiFvqU-Hk3fN_O7frxc3nVsTlUmXeGd1iG1lyT5-AUASNSPT_Tl7UPQ74OUGC9JoeZ6CIsAoD8JvcO990nDqBLG1x3wWCzbsLE/s500/Boer%20War%20Dog%202.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="337" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE5BZHVMlofU9mXFvkHaH5UD9JreaWtijvzYQFJ4qRfsrz9rBIk-9Kk3pQ3hRfxTFeDsIFdQl4zyBjQxKVHkw-umehIHiFvqU-Hk3fN_O7frxc3nVsTlUmXeGd1iG1lyT5-AUASNSPT_Tl7UPQ74OUGC9JoeZ6CIsAoD8JvcO990nDqBLG1x3wWCzbsLE/w270-h400/Boer%20War%20Dog%202.jpg" width="270" /></a></div><p class="MsoNoSpacing">Anyway, now it’s time to deploy with another D6 to
