I doubt whether any of the gunners would really have worn blue during the Boer War campaigns but I thought they added a bit of colour. The straw hats do appear to have been worn judging by photos of these guns in action at the time.
This was a ‘must have’ item for me for this project and will certainly beef up the artillery on the British side.

DeleteIts basically a 105 mm gun so looks more impressive than its actual punch abd I believe the rate of fire was not exciting. As it was not designed as a land artillery piece, but created ad hoc it was substantially over engineered. The British were desperate to get something to challenge the Boers' Creusots, but neither side had enough really heavy stuff to dominate the battlefield and the guns of the time were no realky accurate enough to pick off targets.
